Bridging the gap  --  between historic & modern

THE MACHINE

The Lindow Rose Engine Ornamental Lathe stands as an homage to
the historical craftsmanship of ornamental turning, bridging the gap between age-old tradition and contemporary accessibility. Its mid-sized design, influenced by classic American machines of the New England jewelry trade, is intentionally crafted to cater to a wide audience. With this machine, users can explore their creative potential and engage in this intricate decorative art form.

THE DIRECTION

Emphasizing functionality and economy, the Lindow Rose Engine is a pure beauty in its pragmatism. Its robust, medium-duty construction allows for durable trade-level use and adaptability, making it excel at a wide variety of decorative applications, from simple designs to complex ornamentation. This versatility opens up opportunities for artisans, hobbyists, and professionals alike to experiment with different operations and techniques, expanding the horizons of what can be achieved for their work.
IN THE BEGINNING

The rich history of ornamental turning, which flourished among the nobility of the Renaissance and Age of Enlightenment, adds historical context for the Lindow Rose Engine. In the beginning, these machines were not just tools of the ruling class, but symbols of intellectual pursuit, artistic expression, and display of sophistication for the elite. They were highly valued and allowed nobility to create items that reflected and proved their mastery, serving both educational and recreational purposes. The resulting objects were often highly complex, and took shape according to a preset plan. This fascinated nobility, whose world view advocated a rational natural order where reason was the primary basis for authority. By continuing the lineage of these historical machines, the Lindow Rose Engine honors the legacy, and rolls out the red carpet for a new generation of craftsmen to engage in the practice that blends artistry, intellect and mastery of mechanics, only you don't have to be royalty to own one!

With capabilities and devices that create intricate decorative motifs such as interlocking or repetitive, positive or negative shapes, spirals, flutes, linear and circular patterns, the Lindow Rose Engine empowers artists to push the boundaries of what's possible within their own area of expertise. Each creation on the rose engine is a testament to the turner's skill, revealing their vision, both artistic and technical. As such, the machine is more than just a tool; it represents a revival of an art form that celebrates creativity, craftsmanship, and the pursuit of beauty. Through the Lindow Rose Engine, the complex weave of material, technique and design continues, allowing artisans to leave their mark
on their craft through it's transformative power.
